How To Live In Alignment With Your Higher Purpose
How To Live In Alignment With Your Higher Purpose
Why are we here? Shouldn't life have more meaning? What does higher purpose even mean? First, let me start by asking if believing in a higher purpose means you also believe in a higher power? To me these two things go hand in hand. And if you believe in a higher power then do you also believe everything must happen for a reason? It’s hard to see it that way when you experience tragedy and try to make sense of your higher power orchestrating this on purpose. That just can’t be right. I guess the truth is we will never know that exact answer here in this earthly reality, but what we do know is what happens after the tragedy, is in some ways a choice, and in some ways, there is no way it could’ve happened unless those events happened the way that they did. Have I lost you yet? It may help clarify things if we take a deep dive into what I believe drives the call for someone to pursue their higher purpose - LIFE CHANGING EVENTS.
For some of us, we get that gut wrenching, terrifying call, the one that changes the way we view the rest of our lives, the one that turns our whole world upside down. You lose someone close to you. You experience something so traumatic that your world from that moment forward is completely different. And you can't help but think that there must be more to life than this.
You realize the things you worried about before that point were not important. You realize life is important, people are important, love is important. I will not waste one more minute of my life on something that no longer serves me. Life is too short. In the words of Ferris Bueller, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Here’s the thing, sometimes tragedy and grief hardens our hearts, it causes us to retreat into a cocoon of self-pity. I remember feeling that if I stop crying every day it will be like I don’t care anymore. For some reason I have pulled through a series of unfortunate events. I feel life gave me no other choice but to turn my curses into blessings! That my friends, is the secret…. turning your curses into blessings. That is where you will find your higher purpose. That is where you will see that all the misfortune that happened to bring you right where you are, right now, at this very moment!
Perhaps it is the world around us that is moving too quickly these days, with ever evolving technology and artificial intelligence taking over every cashier job, heck, it's even a little eerie to walk into a fast-food restaurant these days and see nobody behind the register. Have you experienced this yet? Sure, there are humans cooking in the kitchen, but you put your order in on a screen and after a bit someone slides a bag onto the pick-up window, and you go and grab it and walk away without speaking to anyone. It feels strange and empty. If you work in corporate America you are used to a different way, where you workdays, nights, sometimes weekends and holidays trying to beat the clock. You don't get paid any more to do this. You don't receive any praise or job security, it is expected. And if you slow down, have a family crisis, or just end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, you find yourself looking for another job. More and more people are looking for jobs around you, more and more people are telling you how badly they have been treated at work, more and more people are traumatized by the reality of the workplace today and how toxic workplaces have become. You find yourself running through the same routine day in and day out...go to work, come home, eat, sleep, repeat. Is this my life? Is this all that was meant for me? There must be something more fulfilling for me out there.
So, the question is, how do I live in alignment with my higher purpose? And the answer is to find the thing that you are passionate about and do it. To recognize the power of positive thinking and realize that your mindset is all you need to accomplish anything you want in this life. Don't try to figure out who you are but try to figure out who you want to be. And then reach for it. It is there for the taking. You are the only one who can change your reality. Write some positive affirmations, beginning with "I am..." put them in prominent places throughout your house and repeat them daily. But don't just say it, believe it!
If you peel away the things that have happened throughout your life, your skills and talents, your passions and Interests, the people and things that have influenced you throughout your lifetime, you will realize it is all leading you down the path to discovering your life’s purpose. Uncovering your life’s purpose is easier said than done. It took me years to find my true calling, which is ironically, a life purpose life coach. So, my life purpose is to help you find your life’s purpose!
